A Workshop Leveraging Military and Academic Insights
Thompson Conference Center
University of Texas at Austin
June 1, 2017
At the “Enhancing Innovation in Military Base Operations and Maintenance” Workshop academic researchers from around the US and DOD base operators came together to discuss infrastructure challenges facing existing US base operations, and possible innovations and solutions currently in development within academic research that could benefit the military on both a short term and long term basis. The workshop focused on five thrust areas:
Changing Electricity Infrastructure
Water in the Future
Managing the Built Environment
Benefitting from Big Data
Emerging Construction Technology
The morning featured presentations by DOD and academic leaders in each thrust area highlighting emerging issues and solutions. During the afternoon, the workshop featured breakout sessions, allowing DOD specialists to brainstorm with academic attendees on actions that could be taken to aid in migrating effective solutions from academic labs to field deployment at military installations in each thrust area. A report outlining these action items will help keep all participants on track to successfully bring innovative solutions to bear on base installations.
